We decided to go it alone and collaborate. We lacked the business know how, and that is where Outset Cornwall were able to steer us in the right direction.

Pixel Rain’s story

Newly graduated from University College Falmouth in a degree in “Digital Media,” the three quickly realised they were able to offer so much more working together and utilising each other’s unique skills.

Nick said, “We first started working together at university whilst creating a show reel which we could later use for our own purposes. However, we soon realised that our skills complimented one another and we had a great working relationship.”

With a passion to carry on working in Cornwall, Grant, Nick and Rich decided to put their expertise in video production to the test and continue their working relationship to launch PixelRain, a digital media production company specialising in online video for the food, tourism and corporate sector.

Rich explained, “With most other people moving out of the county, and a lack of opportunities in our sector, we decided to go it alone and collaborate. We lacked the business know how, and that is where Outset Cornwall were able to steer us in the right direction.”

The three came to Outset Cornwall after being referred by the Falmouth Pre-Incubation programme,. Now taking part in Outset’s ‘Accelerate to Sustainability’ programme, Grant and Nick have been building new business connections and benefiting from peer to peer learning.

Nick explained “Outset Cornwall has been extremely welcoming and supportive in this early stage of our business. We have been able to interact with people from different backgrounds and experience and have used this as a sounding board for the development of our new venture. It’s an incredibly supportive environment which has helped us turn our technical knowledge into a great new business.”

The trio are already working on some exciting projects in Cornwall for some well-known Cornish brands. In the future they would also like to use their new-found knowledge to help other graduates to gain the practical experience they need to succeed, thereby contributing to the local economy.

Grant explained, “Although Cornwall isn’t known famously for it’s digital economy, we want to help change this by working with other key members of the business community. Outset and other businesses on the course have been so encouraging and welcoming, that we would like to give back eventually by taking on new graduates to come and work under the PixelRain umbrella.”
