After years studying and perfecting her printing technique, Laura reached a crossroads, and finally took a leap of faith by deciding to start her own business.
“I knew that I wanted to work for myself, but I was unsure of where I could use my designs. Whilst researching and trying a few things such as making dresses and underwear, I discovered a gap in the market, and realised that swimwear was a perfect platform for my designs.”
Laura set to work creating a portfolio of tropical designs that could be used on her new creations. The small amount of fabric needed also meant she kept her overheads low within those first few months of making her exciting new swimwear range.
Although having a great product ready to distribute, Laura realised she was lacking the business knowledge needed to make her venture a success. That’s where Outset Cornwall were able to lend a hand, helping Laura to launch her new business, Jinty Jones Swim Wear.
“The Outset Cornwall programme has been fantastic! I have gained so much confidence during the sessions. I don’t feel stupid when it comes to the business side anymore. I can confidently speak about pricing, sales and marketing strategies but more importantly I have gained the knowledge to support these decisions.”
Laura’s business prides itself on being very different to the existing swimwear brands. Her website already stocks a whole host of colourful designs that have proved popular with new customers and stockists in the local area.
“ All the swimwear is designed to be fun, different and flattering. Of course everything is designed and manufactured in the UK!”
Laura is a regular at Outset’s networking sessions and she continues to engage with the programme by meeting with New Business Coach Jan Darby, who is helping her to continue growing her business.
“It’s been fantastic meeting so many brilliant and inspiring people, knowing that you are not totally on your own as you are starting out in business.”
Laura continues to work on a host of exciting new ideas, including diversifying her current product range by creating an exotic range of sun-dresses and other beach wear that will develop the Jinty Jones brand further.
“I can really see Jinty Jones Swimwear becoming one of the next Cornish big brands alongside existing companies such as Finisterre, Eko Sense and Frugi. It is very exciting for me to be in control of this and with the help of Outset I am well equipped to make the best business decisions to make this dream come true.”
