Once her children were old enough, Jasmine took a 6 year designer role with a Cornish clothing company before being made redundant when the operation relocated to Poland. With life very different now and the kids grown up, Jasmine looked to self-employment as a new option and found she had quite an entrepreneurial gift! With several business ideas, Jasmine came to Outset for some support and guidance.
When asked to describe her new business, Jasmine answered, “Stressful! Only joking-it’s exciting and stimulating, having so many different brands to focus on is challenging but very rewarding. Cornish Balms and Crafts is the umbrella company for my four “brands”: Pure and Balmy; Beyond Equicare; Manor signs and Chuchicake. My approach initially to Cornish Balms and Crafts was a little chaotic, although I knew what it was that I wanted to achieve, my knowledge of starting up a business like this was heavy on the creative and marketing side, but light on the networking, planning and administration side.”
Jasmine came to Outset Cornwall for advice and guidance on business planning and found the programme was exactly what she needed. “ Both Mary and Pam made the program interesting and they encouraged everyone to participate in the workshops. No one was left out and we helped each other by throwing ideas and suggestions into the discussions. It was very informative and the business plan really made us focus on what we want, where we are going and the best way to achieve it.”
Jasmine has really found her feet with the business venture since coming on the programme and she is enjoying some excellent sales opportunities. “Both Pure and Balmy and Beyond Equicare are now being sold in Cornwall Farmers and The Horsebox, Manor signs are currently retailing in 5 shops in Cornwall, and Chuchicakes are retailing in Panache gift shop in Padstow and Gift in Truro. I am working on establishing a web site within the next 2 months which will dramatically help to boost sales and product awareness.”
With strong short, medium and long-term plans, Jasmine has her sights firmly set on growing and developing Cornish Balms and Crafts.
