The programme has helped build my confidence and has motivated me to ‘go for it’ and set up my own website.

Gemma’s story

“I have a degree in Fine Art and felt that I was wasting it with the admin jobs I had been doing. I found I had a natural ability and love for making bridal accessories and wanted to use that to make a living so I was referred by RIO in Truro, and my journey with Outset Cornwall started there!”

As one of Outset Cornwall’s youngest entrepreneurs, Gemma has worked her way through the programme taking on board vital advice and guidance about starting her own business, whilst working part-time with the National Trust.

“The programme has helped build my confidence and has motivated me to ‘go for it’ and set up my own website.”

Gemma, who describes herself as a creative, artistic and positive person, makes vintage-inspired bridal accessories using vintage brooches, crystals and pearls and would love to create a strong brand that would enable her to work on it full time.

“I would like to sell enough of my tiaras, art and jewellery to live off comfortably. I currently have my own website, but would like to sell my work through other means too.”

“I have really enjoyed attending Outset Cornwall; I found it helpful, interesting and motivating. I especially enjoyed working in my original group (which was very social!) and working together to create our businesses. Spencer and Jan are brilliant mentors and they have helped me so much.”
