I knew what I wanted to do but I didn’t know where to start or what was possible. I thought the Outset programme looked like the right thing for me, and I’m so glad it was!

Emma’s story

“I’ve always loved cards. I love the whole process from finding the perfect card for someone, to sending it in the post and them receiving it. I think sending cards in the post or delivering them personally is such a lovely way to make someone happy.”

Within a month of returning from her trip, Emma had given up her marketing career in London, packed her belongings and moved to Cornwall to start turning her dream into a reality.

“I always enjoyed the creative side of what I was doing but never felt the job satisfaction I was hoping for. I decided it was time to start doing cards seriously and see if people liked what I was doing.”

After hearing about Outset Cornwall through a friend, Emma did some research online to find out more about the programme before signing up to attend the sessions.

“I knew what I wanted to do but I didn’t know where to start or what was possible. I thought the Outset programme looked like the right thing for me, and I’m so glad it was!”

“The most valuable parts of the programme were definitely anything to do with finances; it’s so helpful to go through it with other people a it makes more sense when you talk about it out loud.”

Emma launched Heart Kiss Hug after completing the Outset programme, selling her greetings cards, bespoke wedding invitations and other personalised designs on her website, where she also blogs about who or what inspires her designs.

“Heart Kiss Hug is all about sharing the love and encouraging people to send things the old-fashioned way, while hopefully offering a unique design that you can’t get anywhere else.”

In the future, Emma plans to continue creating and selling her designs in her online shop, while also selling them in other shops both online and offline. She also intends to expand her product range to include more personalised designs for customers.

“Since doing the Outset programme and launching my business, I’ve changed so much as a person. Now, I would say I go for what I want and I definitely want to continue being my own boss and keep doing what I love.”
